Works in acrylic and polyurethane on timber stands, and photo essay booklet by Zuzana Kovar
Part of Betweenness exhibition series curated by Jonathan Kopinski and Ayano Toki.
The exhibition seeks to draw attention to the particularities of the apartment within which it is set, and to examine these particularities at a detail scale in response to the set theme of microscope. The exhibition consists of four works.
looking
The photo essay booklet ‘Looking’, catalogues detail moments that contribute to the spatial quality of the apartment but are often overlooked. The photographs, generally abstract, are the result of the use of the camera as a microscope - a lens - through which surface textures, signs of use and detritus come to the fore.
wall & floor
The ‘Wall’ and ‘Floor’ pieces work with the applied finishes to two prominent spatial surfaces, in an attempt to bring attention to their material qualities. The common applied finishes of house paint and polyurethane are freed from and hung just off from their respective substrates. The now independent finishes reveal a thickness, sheen level, degree of transparency and even movement in the breeze, rendering them an object in their own right.
